Vietnam, Laos cement friendly cooperative ties

(VGP) - At a reception to his Lao counterpart Somsavat Lengsavad on October 30 in Hanoi, Permanent Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung treasured the close and effective relations between the two countries at all levels.

In recent years, the close ties between the two countries’ ministries, agencies and localities have facilitated the enforcement of the signed agreements for the sake of respective peoples, said the Vietnamese Permanent Deputy PM.    

Both the host and the guest were unanimous in formulating an overall cooperation strategy in the areas of economics, culture, education, human resources, and creating favorable conditions for their joint ventures to develop projects on planting industrial crops and rubber trees. 

The host leader noted the necessity to speed up the construction of Road 2E linking northern provinces of Laos with northwestern localities ofVietnam. Once coming into operation, the road will boost up socio-economic development, tourism, trade and investment between of the two regions, Mr. Hung underlined. 

It was reported that in the first half of 2009, the trade volume reached by US $196 million. Vietnam is among the three biggest investors in Laos. The Lao Government has licensed 17 Vietnam-invested projects worth of US $87.9 million.
